John Allen

John Allen has studied Taiji (Yang style, Cheng Man-Ch’ing variation) since 1995. He studies two days per week with other senior practitioners and teaches seven Taiji classes at Lee and South Run Recreational Centers of the Fairfax County Park System.

John learned the fundamentals of Taiji and Qigong movement from Paul Richard. John has also studied: Wuji Yuan Gong (Qigong) and Taiji Sword with Master Li Jun Feng, former coach of the Beijing Wushu Team of the Peoples Republic of China; Taiji Sword and Ba Gua with Li Jing; Taiji and Push Hands with David Chen; Taiji and push hands with Ben Lo; Walking Qigong with Sifu Ko Wong; and Taiji and Qigong with Master Yang Yang. In October 2007, he studied Evidence Based Taiji and Qigong with Master Yang Yang, a Ph.D. in Kinesiology. In 2006 Master Yang Yang was also honored as the “Qigong Master of the Year” at the 9th World Congress on Qigong and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

A former military officer and Army Ranger, Vietnam Veteran, and Engineer and federal employee, John has experience in different teaching modalities, self discipline and the internalization experiences that go beyond Taiji choreography. His focus is on nurturing the body, mind, and spirit. He also finds time to explore Chinese Brush Painting, or Sumi-e, as well as watercolor and ink drawing.

John is a member of the Peaceable Dragon Instructors Association (PDIA). John is certified to teach by Master Yang Yang.
